At Fairview Northland Medical Center, volunteers are a vital part of the health care team. Volunteers help enhance the hospital experience for patients and their families, and assist staff in providing excellent care and service. 

Volunteer opportunities
Volunteers are placed in a variety of areas. Day, evening and weekend opportunities are available. Departments offering volunteer opportunities include:
• Administration
• Cardiology
• Clinics
• Emergency Department
• Inpatient Nursing
• Mailroom
• Nutrition Services
• Patient Access
• Special Events
• Surgical Services

Support services that volunteers provide:
• Greet, provide directions, answer questions, take messages
• Assist in lounge areas, offering support and refreshments
• Do clerical work and re-stock shelves
• Help with room service and delivery of food trays
• Transport patients to different departments
• Visit with patients, offering books, puzzles, movies and games
• Assist with special events or promotions
• Deliver flowers and gifts to patients

To become a volunteer
To begin volunteering, you will need to complete an application. You can get one at Fairview Northland Medical Center, or click on the "Sign up here to volunteer" button above.  All volunteers must be age 14 years or older. Volunteers will undergo a background check and two-step mantoux test.

Benefits
People volunteer for many reasons, but most agree that the major benefit of volunteering is the satisfaction that comes from helping others and contributing to the community. Volunteering also can offer other individual rewards – new friends, new opportunities to explore potential careers, new interests and the potential for new and improved skills.

Meals: Volunteers working a four-hour shift receive a meal voucher that can be used in our cafeteria. Those working less than a four-hour shift receive a beverage voucher.

Discounts: Volunteers receive a discount on all over-the-counter products at any Fairview Northland retail pharmacy. They also qualify for a free flu shot and many other benefits.

Volunteer Services provides competent, responsible and caring volunteers to assist staff in making a significant difference in the experience of patients and their families while at Fairview Northland Medical Center. As a member of the team, you also share in Fairview’s mission, vision and values.
